Sunday's match review
Orient 7:0 AFC Croydon.
Heading into yesterday’s clash (Sunday, October 19th), only two sides in the Greater London Premier League remained unbeaten: AFC Croydon and our very own Orient. By full-time, that number was down to one — and yes, it’s us!
In a top-of-the-table showdown at Cheshunt (Orient Women’s home ground this season) a young, athletic, and determined Croydon squad made the trip north. They returned to South London empty-handed and a bit taken aback after a dominant 7:0 defeat at the hands of the E10 ladies who now stand as clear favourites for the league title.
Orient’s attacking play was razor-sharp, with Georgia Griffin and the league's top-scorer Sammy Rowland each bagging a brace. Steph McCaffrey, Wiki Fronc, and Lucy Porter added one apiece to complete the scoring. The stats tell their own story: Orient held 92% possession in the first half — a masterclass in control and intent. The goals needed to be crafted by good movement and the vision to play the killer pass at the right moment. Croydon certainly didn't give anything up easily, indeed, their goal-keeper proved very difficult to beat and, to many observers, was the deserved PotM.
We have yet to meet South London and Tooting Bec but, thus far, Croydon are the best team we've faced. The result puts Orient two points clear at the top of the Premier Division, with a game in hand. Their record so far? Played 4, Won 4, Goals For: 45, Goals Against: 0, Points: 12. That’s not just impressive — it’s emphatic.
Larry's live-text reports.
Our roving reporter, Larry Peterson, overcame all the techie bugs which plagued us the previous Sunday but he did get rained on this week. Luckily the match was played at Cheshunt's ground where there's ample covered seating. Watching the teams go through their warm-up routines, he was reminded of last season's match between these two in that Croydon are clearly a young, strong and fit group. This season's O's team are a very different proposition to last season's but Croydon did look to be a different challenge than we'd faced in recent games. Generally, that's how the game proceeded with the E10 ladies having a big enough edge in skills to overcome the game and determined youngsters from London's deep south. All Larry's match remarks can be seen by viewing our Live Text page here.
Enjoy and re-live the afternoon!
GLWFL review
There were only the two games this weekend. Both were rearranged from earlier postponements as we and South London WFC each played one of our games in hand. The results were:-
| Lge | Orient | 7 : 0 | AFC Croydon |
| Lge | South London | 5 : 0 | Comets WFC |
Having taken the three points from AFC Croydon, we lead the table by two points and have a game in hand over the chasing pack. The clear intention is to not relinquish the No 1 spot but Croydon play in the league next Sunday, away at Luton Town Development, if they win, they will regain top spot by a one point margin but having played two more league games than the O's who will be otherwise occupied with an FA Cup tie.
South London WFC, our pre-season tip to be title challengers, were beaten 2:1 at home by a struggling Luton Town's Development squad recently but they made no mistake against Comets WFC on Sunday. Comets will not be accustomed to losing two games in a row and conceding fifteen goals whilst scoring none. We see this as a sign, not so much of Comets losing their edge, more a sign of how strong the GLWFL Premier division has become. South London are also in FA Cup action next Sunday, they'll play Fulham Women's first team who play at Tier 4 of the English women's football pyramid, having been promoted to the FA Women's National League Division One South East for the 2025-26 season. That will be an interesting contest and a good indicator as to how big the difference is between Tier 4 and Tier 7.
The basic GLWFL premier division table is shown below, The full (and automatically updated by the league) table can be viewed HERE

FA Cup action next Sunday
Next Sunday, attention turns to the Adobe Women’s FA Cup, with a first-round away tie at Farnham Town. Like Orient, Farnham boast a perfect record in both league and cup this season, making this our toughest test yet. The FA Cup holds a special significance for the club — it’s the only truly national competition and the best arena in which to showcase our quality. Losing that opportunity at Farnham is NOT part of the plan.

NB: Next Sunday's scheduled league match against London Academicals has been postponed in order to play the FA Cup match at Farnham.
An 'intro' YouTube video
The remarks and questions we get via various portals tells us a number of things, mostly we understand that we haven't adequately got the message over to enough people about what we do at lofcwomen.com what our aims are. We've had a rough stab at putting together a short YouTube video in our attempt to share more widely what it is we do and what we're trying to achieve. We certainly are no great shakes at making videos so please forgive the rough cut attempt and the AI voice we used for the commentary. It's less than 2 mins long so take a look and, of course, if YouTube video production is your speciality... please do get in touch.
