Gizmo's Preview
Capital Cup
Orient vs QPR
Another weekend, another cup game, this one a quarter-final, and here’s hoping that we get to play a match. Since this is scheduled to be at the Betwright Stadium, it looks odds-on to go ahead. QPR Women are a Tier 4 side, but this is a game, I think, against their reserves who play in the Reserves South East division of the FA Women’s National League. As there are only four teams in the division, they will probably welcome the chance to play, even if the odds are stacked against them.
Up next...
QPR are one of the oldest professional clubs in the capital and the men’s team has a reputation for playing entertaining football and wild eccentricity best characterised by club legend; the gambling, womanising, supremely talented Stan Bowles. Whether any of this DNA has leaked into the women’s side is another question.
QPR Reserves beat AFC Croydon in the cup 6-0 and, apparently, Camden WFC (A tier 6 side) on penalties in the previous round which suggests that they are not going to roll over meekly. Goals are mainly provided by Deja Bass (six in twelve) with Adonia McNeilly chipping in four and a bunch of others with between two and three, including Antonia Bird, so they have both fish and fowl in the team. There seem to be at least four players from the first team eligible for this match: Alana Munro, Izzy Owen, Chloe Sampson, and possibly Abbie Morris (all of them midfielders).
The Orient team will be eager to get back into action, having only played two matches this year due to postponements and withdrawals. They will be again without Sammy Rowland but two weeks ago they welcomed in three players from the under 18s side: Edie Miller, Macie Wilson and Isobel Irvine which is great to see, and I hope they get some more minutes this Sunday. Business commitments permitting, it would be good to see Steph McCaffrey return. I expect most of the attacking threat to come from Wiktoria Kiszkis and Poppy Binding, although not forgetting Georgia Griffin. Although any of the women in the team can pop up with a goal! The defence has been top class, with one exception (Bournemouth), throughout the season.
QPR vs Norwich City recently
Orient must start as the firm favourites although this may be a closer game than the last couple. It’s difficult to judge what level QPR Reserves are at and they have had some good results in the Cup. The Orient women are a very tight group, very hungry for success together and it will take an exceptional performance from QPR to turn them over.

We've been here before...
Back in 2020, a Leyton Orient women's team visited QPR in the first round of the Capital Cup (senior level) and lost out 5:4 on penalties after the game finished 2:2. Here's a chance to see how things looked six years ago via a
YouTube Video of the game at played Heston, Hounslow.
The quality looks fairly good but the modern team has moved things on a great deal since then.
This Sunday's Cup & League games.
British weather permitting, this weekend will see two Capital Cup (CC) quarter finals plus three Premier League (PL) matches. Orient are already three games 'behind' Tooting Bec at the top of the table but neither have a league game this weekend.

Our predictions:
Hammersmith V Sporting Duet
Last season's runners-up in the GLWFL, Hammersmith gained promotion to a Tier Six league which they are currently dominating. Ten points clear at the top with a recent 9:0 away win ... remind you of anyone? A well run and well funded club, Hammersmith will move effortlessly to Tier 5 (at least) next season. Another tough day for the Duet keeper coming up.
Verdict:- Home banker.
South London V London Academicals
A few days without rain will be required for this game to stand a chance of going ahead. South London have a game in hand on us but, even if they win it, they'll still be eight points and GD behind and also slightly behind Tooting Bec's record so far. The runner-up spot this season is likely to be vital to whoever gets it (see the note about Hammersmith above) so there's everything to play for. The fact they went out of the league cup least week to Tier 9 Balham would point to all not being well. We under-estimated the Accies a couple of weeks ago so we'll not do that again.
Verdict:- Accies to end South London's chances of catching the top two.
AFC Croydon Ath. V AFC Leyton
A battle of the AFCs probably marks the final chance for Leyton to retain their hard-won premier league status. Croydon sit handily in mid-table but are showing signs of weariness after heavy defeats in cup competitions recently. That said, there's nothing in Leyton's recent results to suggest they can put one over the southerners.
Verdict:- Croydon to cruise past the Eastenders.
Islington Borough V Comets
One way or another, Comets have proven something of a bogey team for the north London club. So it falls again with Islington entering "last chance" territory against a faltering Comets team whose recent 8:2 home defeat to Sporting Duet would suggest this is a season to forget for them. Islington's problems in front of goal but improvement at the back will likely be this game's big influence.
Verdict:- No goals in this one - which will suit neither team.
Live-Text broadcast
We don't know if Dulcet Dave & Co will be in the press box for Sunday's big cup game, or if he is, whether it will be a live audio/video show. Either way, we at lofcwomen.com will be providing our regular LIVE-TEXT service direct from our own correspondent Larry Peterson who will at the ground - doubtless accompanied by a number of the growing band of supporters.
Of course, we encourage everyone to go to the stadium to support the women as they start to close in on possible silverware. Your vocal support is the greatest contribution possible.
No tickets are required, simply head to Gate 7 on Oliver Road (open from 1pm), in the South-West corner of the stadium to gain admission to the Justin Edinburgh West Stand. Once inside, a concourse will be open to serve hot and cold refreshments.
Local parking is available on Sundays, though you are advised to check for restrictions before leaving your vehicle.
If you can't attend the game then you are very welcome to connect to our LIVE-TEXT program which will start about 45 minutes before the 2pm kick off. As always, there'll be no need to subscribe to anything, there'll be no adverts, we won't put cookies on your device and you won't have to keep refreshing your screen to make sure you're seeing the latest update. We'll post a link here on our home page and on our social media portals later in the week to connect you directly to our free service.
