Match Review
Leyton Orient 16:0 London Academicals.
Greater London WFL - Premier division – 21/12/2025

It's very difficult to say "this result was predictable" without sounding a bit arrogant but, in view of the scores recorded by both of these sides during the first half of the season, the fact is - it was predictable. 90 minutes of one-way football during which the visiting 'Accies' goal-keeper was called upon to produce dozens of saves (which she did admirably well) and in which Orient's Poppy Binding added NINE goals to her six goal haul two weeks ago and her two-goal effort last Sunday. Further scores by skipper Grace Gillard (x3), Wiktoria Kiszkis (x2), Wiki Fronc and Georgia Griffin completed the statistics. You can check out the detailed minute-by-minute action, as recorded on our Live-Text service, by clicking HERE To briefly review the first half of the season... We're clear at the top by three points and with a game or two in hand over the chasing pack. We've scored 107 league goals (our GD is +106) and the nearest we've come to a close match was a 7:0 win. Kinda says a lot doesn't it?
The fact is ... we are in a division which is not competitive for the team we have. That's not our fault, every effort was made to explain to the Women's FA what was likely going to happen but were told that rules are rules ... so here we are, playing teams with very different structures and ambitions to our own. There are some great women's clubs in our league with excellent social and personal developmental programmes for youngsters. Whilst our club equally values such ideals, it is not the prime mover for Leyton Orient Women's team. It is worth saying, we at lofcwomen.com are not an official voice of the club, we're just fans - but we have a point of view. We do hope the FA will see the results of their strict adherence to the rules has produced and that 2026/27 can be organised in a way that better suits everyone. We'll be back for the next league game on 4th January against Islington Borough, we expect the series of extreme scores to continue.

The ever growing 'Dad's army within the ranks of lofcwomen.com now include Rob Munson (right side of Poppy Binding in the photo), everyone's favourite bloke Dennis Barefield (Left side of Poppy), not forgetting chief correspondent Larry Peterson (behind the lens), previewer and advisor extra-ordinaire 'Doc' Gizmo and your's truly, never seen outside the bunker here in Croatia, Paul Fischer. It's not that we're all that old but Rob and Dennis were standing on the terraces at Brisbane Road in the 1950s. Despite the lack of youth among the converted, we are all enthused by the women's team and all the people who work to bring it all together. Why not come along and join us? There's room for everyone, we're always looking for contributors and photographers! You don't have to be a pro, just enthusiastic.

The only other game booked to be played on Sunday was, at least on paper, an interesting clash between two wannabe promotion candidates in the shape of AFC Croydon Athletic and (our tip from pre-season) South London WFC. Although the league hasn't confirmed it, they only published our result so we assume their game was called off.

Up next

And now a break, well earned by everyone. The next game is booked for 4th January 2026 which is a GLWFL game against Islington Borough Ladies, to be played at Cheshunt. Check back here on Friday 2nd January to see our preview of that game plus any other snippets which may come our way in the meantime. In the meantime, budding journalist Caitlin Kelly continues to produce good stuff and post it on her Instagram account. Here's another example of how well she covers the women's matches with video, this one from Sunday just past..... If you don't have an Instagram account, you may be denied access.
