The McCaffrey family from Massachusetts have certainly have made a big splash at Leyton Orient recently. James McCaffrey, a senior partner at Eastdil Secured Inc, is the driving force behind the front-of-shirt sponsorship for the club. Daughter Stephanie (pic), a former USA international and professional player in the US National Women's Soccer League (NWSL) has joined the O's women and is doubtless a key part of the McCaffrey Football Investment Group, a recently formed women’s sports investment firm who have announced they are to invest in Leyton Orient's Women.
There's an in-depth write-up describing how the plans for the Orient women have been set out, you can read it all at the club's website or see it via this link . Everyone here extends our warm welcome to Stephanie along with all the new recruits, here's hoping for a mega-successful season. Our man at the matches, Larry Peterson, has already watched Stephanie and many of the new players in action, he's excited about what he sees as the strongest women's side so far.
Oaklands Wolves come to Buckhurst Hill this Sunday
The 'Wolves' are part of Oaklands Football Academy, a multi-team organisation dedicated to developing players for a career in football. The side who will play against our women's first team on Sunday is effectively a youth team filled with players who see their natural progression as part of Arsenal's academy programme. Arsenal and Oaklands share facilities and coaches plus a joint ambition to produce professionals. They may be young but they already play at FAWNL Tier 7, the same as we do.
Sundays game is a 2nd preliminary round of the women's FA cup, the winner will move into the FA Cup 'proper' as well as earning £3,000 in prize money plus there's more to be won in the next round.
Wolves will be led by coach Matthew Aumeeruddy. He works within the Arsenal Women’s Academy as an age group coach and does pre-match opposition analysis for the WSL Academy U21s team. Alongside his roles at Arsenal, Matt also coaches at an FA Women’s National League club in tier 4 of the women’s football pyramid. One of his charges will be in the team to meet us at Buckhurst Hill, Meeka Nightingale, a young ever-present in this year's side who has scored in every game so far.

O's female Under 16s in action
This season's newly formed Orient girls' under 16 side have an away match on Saturday at... wait for it! ... West Ham. This will be a Junior Premier League (JPL) match between neighbouring academies. Doubtless the extra "spice" of such a derby game won't be lost on either side. Of course, it is development football but there are serious bragging rights up for grabs. The under 18 team are not in competitive action this weekend.
