LEYTON ORIENT WOMEN FC

13 Oct 2025

We win at Comets (Overview)
Comets 0 : 10 Orient.

Orient’s women’s team played their third league match of the season in the Greater London Premier. Perennial ‘nearly’ team Comets WFC provided the opposition. Once again, the story followed familiar lines — one of complete control. Two goals inside the opening four minutes effectively put the game to bed before it had begun.
From there, the goals kept coming. ‘Super’ Sammy Rowland netted five (for the second time this season), with further strikes from the ever-improving Wiktoria Kiszkis (2), Kallie Balfour (2), and Steph McCaffrey. At the other end, keeper Lola Durojaiye stayed sharp to preserve another clean sheet, making two excellent diving saves against a Comets side that never stopped trying.
The O’s remain unbeaten and unbreached in the league, with just one goal conceded across three cup matches — and that was a genuine “worldie”. So the Orient juggernaut rolls on, flattening all in its path. But the next two weeks promise different challenges. Unbeaten in the league AFC Croydon arrive at Cheshunt next Sunday and then we travel to Tier 6 Farnham Town in the first round of the FA Cup — a side with a 100% record of their own. Something has to give!
The FA Cup is a true national competition, and the only arena where Orient’s women will share the stage with the top professional sides. It’s a chance to show the wider footballing world what this team is made of — and that opportunity mustn’t slip away at home or at a quiet pitch in Farnham.
Coach Jason Stephens has voiced concern about complacency. After all, winning breeds comfort — but comfort doesn’t win games.

Georgis Griffin

"I'm back!" Georgia Griffin returns after injury

Absent from the squad were Gemma Baker, Lois Heuchan, Jade Keogh, Eva Carvalho, Wiki Fronc (who only retuned to fitness a week ago) and Olivia McGregor. All of whom would walk into any other team in the league. Lovely to see Georgia Griffin return to action, she was unplayable a few weeks ago so we look forward to seeing her typical rapid and energetic contribution over the coming weeks.

Our roving reporter, Larry Peterson, had to overcome all manner of techie bugs and problems to get his reports of the game into our Live-Text streaming studio. At least he was standing in the warm autumnal sunshine at Putney watching our girls win with another huge score. All his pre-match, mid-match and post-match round-up remarks can be seen by viewing our Live Text page here.
Enjoy and re-live the day!

Greater London Premier League round-up

The GLWFL premier division is starting to shape up with the front runners and strugglers beginning to be identified. The full (and automatically updated by the league) table can be viewed HERE

Pos Team Played GD Points
1 AFC Croydon Athletic 4 +4 10
2 Leyton Orient 3 +38 9
3 Sporting Duet 5 +6 9
4 Tooting Bec 4 +3 9
5 London Academicals 5 -2 9
6 Comets WFC 5 -6 6
7 Luton Town Dev 6 -18 6
8 South London WFC 3 +1 4
9 Islington Boro 4 -16 3
10 AFC Leyton 5 -10 0

Sunday's games were all in GLWFL premier division, here are the results:-

Lge AFC Croydon 5 : 4 Sporting Duet
Lge Comets WFC 0 : 10 Orient
Lge London Accies 2 : 0 AFC Leyton
Lge South London 1 : 2 Luton Town
Lge Tooting Bec 2 : 0 Islington Boro

Two south-of-the-Thames sides, Croydon and Duet, met to win local bragging rights. Croydon's 5:4 victory means they stay top after playing four games which pushed early leaders Duet down to 3rd (just behind us) but they've dropped six points now. Croydon will be fancying their chances and will be visiting us next Sunday to make their case. They did beat us last season in a midweek cup game but, as we all know, this year's Orient side are a very different proposition.
London Academicals are cruising along in mid-table and took some revenge on fellow promotees AFC Leyton who pipped the University ladies to the Division One (North) title last season. Leyton are struggling.
Tooting Bec are looking typically strong and managed a 2:0 win at home over a battling Islington Boro. Bec will be playing the Os at Brisbane Road on 9th November in a league match, they won't want to be reminded of last season's fixture when they again came to the big stadium but shipped eight goals.
Shock of the day came at South London Firsts, tipped by us to be our main title challengers, who took on Luton Town Development, the Bedfordshire side had played five and lost four. It was the young Hatters who ran out 1:2 winners to move themselves out of the relegation spots and move above South London.
So, the two remaining unbeaten clubs, us and Croydon, meet next Sunday at Cheshunt. That'll be a game not to miss.
