Capital Cup Final
Hammersmith vs Leyton Orient
The first of two cup finals for Leyton Orient. This is the Capital Cup against West End girls Hammersmith Women who play in Division 1 North of the London and South East Regional League (Tier 6). They are a well-funded team, being partnered with drum and bass duo Chase and Status and football streetwear brand Kappa. They are also a very international bunch of women.
Hammersmith were promoted into this division having finished runners-up to Camden in the Greater London Womens Football Leage Premier Division last season. They’ve taken this higher division by storm losing only one game. They are favourites to win the title, although they can’t afford a slip in their last three games as Bromley have dropped just one point more over the season. Unlike Orient, they have a ton of players registered – alright 42.
They have two goal scoring machines: Rachel Anderson with 17 in 16 games and Selin Buyukgiray with 9 in 8 or 9 games. Experienced (am I allowed to say that?) striker and head of women’s football Madeline Hills deserves a mention for her 7 goals this season and having scored 104 goals (!) in 84 appearances for the first team plus 48 assists. Izzy Douglas is in great form, having won Divisional Player of the Month. But do any of them Peter Crouch it? Emma Vigolo is the likely goalkeeper with Bells Wordsworth and Annabelle Webster in front of her. Not sure who else appears in defence. Aya Mirjan and Iona Bennett look likely in midfield.
Orient come into this match after a resounding 13-0 win over London Academicals. Poppy Binding had four, Georgia Griffin three and Bria Abbiati scored her first for the club. Due to one thing and another, there was only one substitute on the bench. It will be interesting to see who is back (Ellie Leek?) and how deep the bench is on Sunday. Wiki Fronc has recently completed an ultra-marathon so is probably only fit enough for a sub’s role – I would be in hospital. Lola Durojaiye, Grace Gillard, Hayley West and Flo Donnelly will need to be very alert against a good Hammersmith team. Steph McCaffrey will seek to use all her experience and skill on Sunday.
This promises to be a fascinating contest. Hammersmith are at least a Tier 5 team and maybe better than that. Orient certainly aren’t a Tier 7 team. Where are they now is a good question as they haven’t played a team as highly ranked as Hammersmith since the FA Cup match against Bournemouth. Hammersmith have been playing better opposition all season. The game will be a real test for the girls and the coaching team. Make sure on Sunday there is nobody badder than we …
Venue
Meadowbank Football Ground, Mill Lane, Dorking, RH4 1DX. Overlooked by spire of St Martins Church and with views of the Surrey Hill. Closest train station is Dorking West, which is a six-minute walk to the ground. Dorking station is around twenty minutes, and Dorking Deepdene is a twelve-minute walk. It’s near the High Street where there are various pubs. Not London Bars, but fine.
By Car (courtesy of footballgroundsguide.com)
Leave the M25 at Junction 9 and take the A243 and then the A24 towards Dorking. After around 12 miles of mostly dual carriageway, you will reach the outskirts of Dorking. Continue past the turn off for the railway stations on your left and the Lincoln Arms. At the next roundabout, take the fourth exit onto the A25 (Signposted Dorking Town Centre).
After passing a BP Garage on your left, continue straight along the High Street. On reaching the White Horse Hotel on the left, turn right into Mill Lane (Signposted St Martin’s Walk Parking/Football Ground). At the fork in the road, bear left for the St Martin’s Walk Car Park (Pay and Display), or bear right down the narrow lane to the ground entrance, which is at the bottom on the left. However, there is no parking available to visiting supporters at the ground.
Parking
The St Martin’s Walk Car Park holds over 350 cars so is of a fair size. If it is full then there are other pay and display car parks signposted off the High Street. There is plenty of street parking to be found on the other side of the ground to the High Street around Chalkpit Lane (RH4 1EY). Then at the bottom of this road, there is a footpath (across from the handy Dolphin Fish & Chip shop) going to the left that leads you to the ground.

Hammersmith prepare...
A look here at what awaits our girls on Sunday. Hammersmith are a well organised, well funded and extremely ambitious club. So are we! This is going to be the battle of the season.
Here's a YouTube clip of the opposition at training this week.....
Incidentally, last Sunday, as we were chalking up a 13:0 victory against mid-table London Academicals, Hammersmith scored their own 13:0 win over bottom (and pointless) club; Soccer Elite Football Academy.

LOFCwomen.com Predictions.
Arguably, one of the biggest games the Os women have played in the modern era (since 2021), we staffers here at LOFCwomen.com have made our own personal predictions for Sunday's match. They are:-
Larry Peterson
Match commentator and the women's No 1 fan!
"Were gonna smash them - I reckon 3:0"
Gizmo G
Researcher, writer of our previews and master of obscure references.
"I think we'll win - put me down for 2-0."
Ben James
Match reporter, ace videographer and professional Canadian.
"If we field our best possible line-up, I think we'll win. Remember, we have plenty of players who last year were in Hashtag United's squad - at the third tier of the pyramid."
Paul Fischer
Editor, web-master and shadowy foreign based tax dodger.
"Hammersmith have regularly faced tough opposition, we haven't. That will have prepared them for this big game whilst we haven't really been tested. They will take the trophy by the odd goal.

GLWFL Premier Division round-up
Life in the Greater London Premier Division carries on outside of Orient's Capital Cup final. Here are Sunday's fixtures...
| PL | Croydon | vs | Comets |
| PL | Accies | vs | Islington |
| PL | Luton Tn | vs | S London |
AFC Croydon need only a point to take Sporting Duet's 5th place and mount a late challenge for Luton's 4th spot. They would've been confident of getting it last Sunday against Islington Borough Ladies but they took a beating. With form like that, we predict Comets will win this one too.
London Academicals put in a gutsy display against the all-conquering Orient last Sunday and will need to do it again against a too-late resurgent Islington Borough. Nothing at stake but pride here but these two will go at it with all they have and probably enjoy a great day's football.
Luton Town Development squad will have their recent rise in fortunes tested by an always-strong South London side who themselves had to swallow a bitter pill last week by losing 1:0 to their close southern rivals Tooting Bec. South London will be slight favourites in this one but not by much.
The GLWFL Premier division table looks like this. The two relegation places have been settled but the top spot must wait at least until the following Sunday when Tooting Bec must win to keep their challenge alive, that won't be easy because they'll play Leyton Orient and we need just a point from the game to secure the title.
| Pos | Team | Pld | GD | Pts |
| 1 | Leyton Orient | 15 | 164 | 45 |
| 2 | Tooting Bec | 17 | 31 | 45 |
| 3 | South London | 16 | 31 | 31 |
| 4 | Luton Town Dev | 15 | -10 | 22 |
