Sporting Duet vs Leyton Orient.
Greater London WFL - Premier division – 7/12/2025
After another rain-induced postponement (cue Louisiana, “they’re going to wash us away”) and a walk-over over Hook and Chessington, the girls will be very keen to get back on grass for a league match against Sporting Duet.
Duet were promoted from League 1 South. They seem to be a grass roots development club, focusing on under 16s with a men’s and women’s team attached. They also have, sacre bleu, a sporting partnership with French Ligue 1 club Rennes. Given that Rennes are, like everyone else in Ligue 1, short of money, this is more the French club fishing for pearls (Bizet) than anything else.
Sporting Duet sit third in the table, largely because they have played the most games. They don’t do draws: won five, lost five. Defence is not their thing, and they have been on the end of some heavy losses to Tooting Bec and Comets. Up front they are almost entirely dependent on Olivia Woodward, with ten goals in seven matches.
After the disappointing FA Cup result against Bournemouth and a blank week, Leyton Orient women will be raring to go this Sunday. Sammy Rowland and Steph McCaffrey will have strapped on their shooting boots and will be looking forward to testing the Duet backline. There are plenty of threats elsewhere from, among others, Poppy Binding, Lucy Porter and Wiktoria Kiszkis. At the back the flower duet (Delibes) of Hayley West and Grace Gillard will keep things tight – do remember roses have thorns. The girls will be keen to get back to winning ways and keep themselves on course for the title. They should have too much for Duet.
The venue is the Quintin Hogg Memorial Sports Ground (Lord Hailsham for those of a certain age) off Hartington Road in Chiswick, West London. Post code is W4 3UJ and it is just off the river. Doesn’t look like there is much in the way of facilities and the weather forecast is dreadful, so wear wellies. The nearest tube is Chiswick Park which is twelve minutes’ walk. Taskmaster House is nearby, if you fancy it. Closest pub appears to be The Ship, on the other side of Kew Bridge. Lots of options if you walk towards Kew Bridge, probably about 15-20 minutes from the ground.

This Sunday's GLWFL fixtures.
There are only three other Greater London Premier Division matches this Sunday, they are...
| Lge | AFC Croydon Ath | : | Tooting Bec |
| Lge | Islington Borough | : | South London |
| Lge | UCL Academicals | : | Comets WFC |
AFC Croydon also suffered a postponed game last Sunday and now face the daunting task of taking on Tooting Bec who are currently at the apex of the league albeit having played three games more than the Os who are just three points behind. AFC have dropped seven points (2 draws and a defeat) whereas Bec have dropped six (two defeats). This game will likely decide which of the strong contingent south of the Thames are going to present the major challenge to Orient's march to the league title.
Our Verdict: Croydon have slipped a little lately so Bec to cement their credentials by taking this one - but by the narrowest of margins.
Islington Borough, Having suffered a 5:1 defeat to South London last Sunday, Boro find they must play the same side this Sunday, this time at home. A rare circumstance caused by a mixture of postponements due the bad weather and also due to South London making headway in the FA Cup. Borough continue to battle hard to save themselves from the drop and constantly seek new recruits to try and replace the bulk of the side who left the club just as the season started.
Our Verdict: More of the same with South London just too strong for the Battling Boro Ladies.
London Academicals (aka: University College London women's team) and Comets WFC fought out a tough Capital Cup round a couple of weeks back which saw the ladies in sky blue come through with a 2:1 Victory. (Hint: UCL don't play in sky blue). This was sweet revenge for the Comets who's lost the earlier league game by the same score back in Early October. The Accies have lost their last two league games whilst a resurgent Comets side have won their two most recent matches.
Our verdict: Comets to continue their upward momentum, Accies to continue looking nervously down the table.
