Chessington and Hook Utd - Capital Cup

This week sees Leyton Orient enter the Capital Women's Cup Intermediate section in the first round with a trip to Surrey. This is a debut season for Chessington and Hook women with the match to be played at the wonderfully named Chalky Lane ground.

They play in the Surrey Premier division which is at Tier 7. They have been going along in mid-table, which is good for a first year, but have been on the end of some big defeats, which doesn’t bode well for them against Orient. Sofia Demetriou provides the goals – eight in eight. She is generally partnered by Olivia Watson. Honey Ellis is almost ever present in midfield, with the other roles shared between Tanya Dady, Holly Hawkes and Lucie Hill.

Orient come into this match having beaten a stubborn Tooting Bec 7-0 which put them top of the division by three points with a game in hand. Two goals apiece from Sammy Rowland and Ellie Thomas Leek did the main damage. They will want a good performance before next week’s FA Cup tie against Bournemouth. This is also a competition that Orient will be targeting to win (although a QPR Women's side are lurking in the bushes).

The main bit of team news was that Lois Heuchan made her second appearance for the club, so I suspect that we might see her in this game. The team is well settled, although there may be some slight changes if Lucy Porter and Poppy Binding start this Sunday. Chessington and Hook look like they will be up against it and I think another double digit scoreline is likely.

The ground is off Leatherhead Road with Chalky Lane being opposite Chessington World and Chessington Zoo. So there is an opportunity for a fun day out with the kids. The club house has a fully licenced bar and there should be food available. By car, you can take Junction 9 off the M25, go north and turn right onto Chalky Lane. Coming from the north aim for the Kingston Bypass and turn left onto Leatherhead Road.

The club's car park has approximately 200 spaces. If no spaces are available please don't park on the verges in Chalky Lane. Try Chessington World of Adventures main car park which is situated opposite the entrance of Chalky Lane. Closest rail station is Chessington South which is about a 25 minute walk to the ground.

This Sunday's Capital Cup fixtures.

There are no Greater London Premier division games this weekend, everyone is taking part in the Capital Cup. That means we stay top of the league for another week. The next league games are due on the following Sunday 23rd November where we'll be otherwise engaged in a massive game in the FA Cup against the full-time professionals of AFC Bournemouth. No matter! Nobody in the league can push us off the top of the table although there will be a fascinating battle between Tooting Bec and South London WFC. More about that nearer the day...

All the Capital Cup games, first round, are listed here. Teams from the Greater London Women's Football League - Premier Division are marked with a *

There are a few teams about whom we have some relative interest:-

Hammersmith were last season's runners-up in our league but got promoted to help fill gaps in the higher divisions, an opportunity we missed! As a highly organised and very well funded club, we're not surprised to see them storming through their new Tier six league. If we met them at some point it would be a good marker as to how each of us have progressed over the last couple of years.

UCL Academicals will play the Comets, both are in the GLWFL premier division (with us) and both are looking nervously over their shoulders at AFC Leyton and Islington Boro who are desperate to escape their relegation positions. Of course, these are all cup matches but as Leyton and Boro are showing signs of improvement then Accies and Comets can fight it out to see who is more or less likely to get caught. We're predicting a tight finish with Comets emerging as victors.

Last Sunday's opponents Tooting Bec will have their hands full to cope with Tier 6 Carshalton but we reckon there's a fair chance of a bit of giant (relatively) killing may happen in this one.

In another tier 6 versus tier 7 battle, QPR will face our T7 colleagues of AFC Croydon. The R's will start favourites but Croydon have a toughness about them and may just pull off a notable win.
