Match report
AFC Leyton 0:15 Leyton Orient.
Greater London Premier league – 2/11/2025

Sunday 2nd November 2025 saw the Orient women's team make a short journey to play near neighbours AFC Leyton in a Greater London Women's Football League, premier division game. It was Orient's 5th league game of the season, fewer than most in the premier division because of the O's remaining commitments in the Adobe Women's FA Cup competition. This was AFC Leyton's 7th league.

Having won all five of our games and having amassed a GD of +45, the outcome was not difficult to predict in view of AFC's six straight defeats and a GD of -11. So it was that Orient's all-conquering ladies (so far) ran out winners by a large scoreline. AFC did get a few attempts on the visitor's goal but keeper Lola Duroyaiye had little to deal with in terms of threats to the team's "zero goals against" record in the league so far. Indeed, the 4 FA Cup games played so far have seen 39 goals scored with just the one conceded. It's been that kind of season.

Wiki Fronc

Wiki Fronc at the post match interview

Six goals from Stephanie McCaffrey plus a hat-trick from Poppy Binding, a brace from both Wiktoria Kiszkis and Sammy Rowland and goals from Wiki Fronc and Georgia Griffin is how the record books will show the result details. More comprehensive details of the game and how it evolved, minute by minute, can be seen from 'bloke-at-the-match' Larry Peterson's live-text messages, see the section below.

History, circumstances and league rules have all conspired to match two clubs, one with an admirable social contract with their local community as they focus on providing opportunities for women and girls - against another team, also with a keen eye on it's place in the community whilst simultaneously having ambitions to play at a high level within the women's game nationally. Much has been written about the subject so we see no purpose in expanding it further. Interestingly, one the league major powers, South London WFC, also won their premier division game 12:2 on Sunday, demonstrating that ill-matched teams playing each other is not so rare. Indeed, double figure scores are to be found in games involving GLWFL teams from all five divisions.

Our roving reporter, Larry Peterson, made the short trip over to Salisbury playing fields on a sunny first Sunday in November to make his regular phone-in of match details for our Live-Text shows. Sandwiched between his conducting an interview (coming soon) with a stalwart O's fan, he reported that AFC Leyton looked a physically fit side. All Larry's match remarks can be seen by viewing our completed Live Text page here. Enjoy the pre-match build up, the team sheet details and re-live the afternoon as it unfolded, blow-by-blow, minute by minute.

This Sunday's results and round-up

Lge AFC Croydon P : P Comets WFC
Lge Islington Boro 0 : 2 Luton Tn Dev
Lge London Accies 2 : 12 South London
Lge Tooting Bec 5 : 0 Sporting Duet
Lge AFC Leyton 0 : 15 Leyton Orient

The postponement of Croydon's home match against Comets means that most team in the league have now played a similar number of games thus giving the league table a more realistic look. Croydon sit comfortably in mid-table whilst perennial top half finishers Comets WFC sit one place above the relegation zone, that's something new to us long term GLWFL observers.

In line with our prediction last week, Luton Town Development squad took the points at Islington Borough with a 2:0 away win. This was a battle to stay out of the drop zone which, after a closely fought tussle, the rising fortunes of Luton Town continue whilst Islington failed to get closer to Comets who remain three points above them. Next week's clash between those two will have a lot to say about who survives. History between the clubs suggests Comets will pile on the agony for the north Londoners.

London Academicals looked to have some good form of late so we thought they'd push mid-table rivals South London WFC into a hard game, we certainly didn't foresee a 12:2 outcome. The Accies remain in mid table with a 50% points return, meanwhile South London move closer to the top as their results continue to impress.

Heading into the weekend, "Duet" and "Bec" were in second and third place respectively, only GD separated them. Who would present the major challenge to Orient at the top was sorted out as Tooting Bec thumped their nearest challengers 5:0. Five different goal scorers (inevitably including Bryony Bancroft) shows they score goals from all over the park. The timing couldn't be better, Bec will come to Brisbane Road next Sunday to stake their claim for the Premier Division title. They'll be looking to improve on last season when they also came to Orient's stadium but suffered a 9:1 defeat due in part to Striker Jordan Feldman scoring five goals. Jordan has moved up to a tier six club now but there's plenty of new fire power in the O's team.
