Match overview: Camden 1:0 Orient
After a pre-season of seven games which brought seven wins, we fans could be forgiven for getting a bit ahead of ourselves in terms of how the new season may pan out. However, we were rudely disavowed of that view by being beaten 1:0 by Camden Town in what was the O's first league game of this season.
Camden are a team of fit athletes (including some powerfully built players) who possess no mean turn of skill. Although there are numerous leagues around the country playing at Tier Seven of the FA Women's national game, it seems none come close to the standard seen in the Greater London Women's Premier League. Camden were stronger on the day, they had more good chances and deserved the three points. It leaves the O's ladies with some thinking to do if there's going to be a successful season ahead.
A special word for Hannah Stone in Orient's goal, she pulled out a number of top-notch saves as well as catching crosses and corners whilst under great pressure from the Camden strikers. There were a few chances created by the ladies in red but these were outnumbered by the storming Camden attacks. Solid performances from skipper Grace Alexander and Courtney Miller plus fully committed yellow card contributions from Layla-May Duffield and Liliana Almeida couldn't make the difference. Our attacking force were mostly shackled by the robust attentions of the home side.
Next week will bring Hammersmith (also unbeaten this season) to Buckhurst Hill for a league match. The test is expected to be no less challenging.

Mixed results for the Girls' teams
Both our female youth teams were in action on Saturday, both are part of the national JPL programme, a country-wide organisation for the best players to find competitive football with and against their peers. Here are the results:-
JPL Under 16 league - Group 13.
London Football School - 0
Leyton Orient - 4
JPL Under 18 league - Group 7.
Leyton Orient- 1
Haringey - 5
The Under 16s are marching along well in this their first season. A regulation 4:0 victory at bottom club London FS brings them equal top of their JPL division with AFC Leyton after four games. Next Saturday sees the visit of 3rd place Hutton to the O's home ground at Loughton, that promises to be a close encounter! Their results, fixtures and league standing can be viewed right here on Lofcwomen.com at: Under 16s stats.
The under 18s ran into their old nemesis of Haringey. The two fought for dominance last season in the JPL but it was the north London club who emerged victorious at the season's final game between the two. Sadly, it looks like Haringey are maintainnig their hoodoo over our girls in their JPL group by winning away by 5:1. The U18's results, fixtures and league standing can be viewed right here on Lofcwomen.com at: Under 18s stats.
Greater London Premiership - other results.
Brentford B - 1
Islington Boro - 1
Comets WFC - 5
Candi Utd - 1
South London - 2
Luton Town - 1
Tooting Bec - P
Headstone Manor - P
As leaders Islington Boro lose their 100% record with a 1:1 away draw at winless (so far) Brentford 'B', only Camden Town and Hammersmith remain as teams who have won all the games. Hammersmith will be bringing their record to the Os next Sunday, we'll be hoping to inflict their first defeat.
As we reported earlier last week, Headstone Manor declared via their social media platforms they had closed their doors and had folded. We see the FA have labelled Sunday's game at Tooting Bec as being "postponed". That's less than clear as to the permanency of Headstone's demise so we'll keep an eye on that situation. As things stand, the GLWFL now has ten teams - as was originally planned.
Of course, the first team's results, fixtures and league standing can be viewed right here on lofcwomen.com at: First team stats. There are other options available by clicking on the menu icon at the top right of this page.
