Sunday 22/9/2024.
FT: Leyton Orient 11 : 3 Oaklands Wolves.
Today we saw the new-for-2024/25 Leyton Orient women's team start their competitive season. The opposition were a side of talented players who are part of a development programme aimed at providing Arsenal with top professionals. These were no park players enjoying a Sunday afternoon kick-about, they are properly trained, coached and ambitious young players with a hope to make a career for themselves. This result will be been seen throughout South-Eastern regional women's football and will shout "this is a very good Orient team" from the rooftops.
We'll put together a more comprehensive result in a day or so.
Thanks for following along with us, we hope we've helped to make your day.

No nonsense defending by Tayla Gencarelli - laces right though the ball to end the threat.

46 mins
We're off with the second half. Layla Crouch-Salmon (has a yellow card) is replaced by Tayla Gencarelli who makes her Orient debut.
At half time and having scored six goals, it would seem churlish to ask if the game is in doubt but Oaklands are not laying down. This game is not over and fitness plus the quality of the respective bench players may yet have a major influence. Coach Danny Martin will be thinking hard about who to bring on and who to rest. This is football at its most exciting! Going for a quick cuppa... we'll be back for the 2nd half.
43 mins
Oaklands get through on goal but Layla Crouch-Salmon 'neutralises the threat at the expense of a free kick - which came to nothing.

Oaklands get into a shooting position but the shot doesn't cause Delainy Savill any real problems.
25 mins
Grace Collins-Edwards gets a shot away but it is charged down by the Oaklands defenders.

12 mins
Courtney Miller tries her luck from distance and wasn't very far away from making it 2:0
10 mins
Stephanie McCaffrey nearly doubles the lead but the ball comes back off the post.
6 mins
Orient have all the possession, probably the biggest crowd we've seen at a Buckhurst Hill match. There's a feeling of somethnig good happening.
01 mins
Grace Collins-Edwards gets possession from the keeper's kick and passes to Leanne Bates whose right footed volley misses by a whisker.
00 mins
and we're off to a new season....
1.55pm
5 minutes to go, the rain is holding off for now - fingers crossed it stays that way for the next 2 hours.
1.40pm
Welcome to a very wet Buckhurst Hill where our senior women's team take on Oaklands Wolves (aka Arsenal's female development squad) in our first competitive match of the season. Oaklands are, like us, playing at Tier Seven of the women's national hierarchy. It should be an interesting encounter - weather permitting. The team sheet is shown below. Click on a name to see a photo of the player.
1.00pm
Team line-up confirmed (see below). Delainy Savill makes her debut as the starting keeper, no sign of a reserve keeper on the bench. The back line of Alexander, Crouch-Salmon, Miller and Duffield looks like the strongest option with a string of clean sheets to their name. The sub's bench looks ultra-strong so coach Martin has plenty of options without weakening the team.
