Post match round-up
As most already know, the players and staff in this Orient team would not ordinarily be involved in the FA Cup qualifying competition. The rules, however, dictate where we play and that is a result of the fact that Orient's team is just four years old. In that our club has recruited so well and must comply with the restrictions set by the rules means that - here we are!... playing in Tier 7 and in the qualifying rounds of the FA Cup. As the saying goes, you can only beat the opposition put in front of you, this is what our women are doing.
Needham Market are a spirited group and not without some good players but they should not be facing teams who can knock 13 goals past them, it's not their fault, nor is it ours. We either have to do a Wrexham, one season at a time, or someone in the FA's ivory tower has to adjust the application of the rules so that these women may play people of equal talent and make the whole women's football scene operate with more sense. Who knows which of those will happen, we hope it is the latter - for the good of everyone involved.
90 mins
F U L L - T I M E
It ends 13-0, the Orient juggernaut trundles on, we go into the hat for the first round 'proper' of the FA Cup. Life will get interesting from here on.
90 mins
!!! G O A L !!!
Hayley West carries the ball from the back-line all the way to the Needham penalty area and beats countless players on the way, she passes it to Sammy Rowland who makes no mistake and secures her hat-trick.
87 mins
!!! P E N A L T Y !!!
Needham get the chance to get on the scoreboard but miss the target from a penalty. When it's not your day!
85 mins
!!! G O A L !!!
Sammy Rowland thumps an unstoppable shot to make it twelve. That's her 2nd of the 2nd half.
84 mins
Wiki Fronc goes off, replaced by Ruby Abela. All the subs are now playing.
79 mins
Needham are gamely coming forward, they get a throw in Orient's half.
77 mins
Needham get an attacking free kick and go for goal, it went too high. Then Wiki Fronc got through but was flagged offside.
66 mins
Lucy Porter has joined the field, Wiki Kiszkis and Gemma Baker are off, Emily Dilliway is now playing - it's her debut for Leyton Orient. Welcome Emily.
66 mins
!!! G O A L !!!
We knew it wouldn't be long before Sammy Rowland got herself on the scoresheet. 11:0 now.
65 mins
Hayley West arrives from her defensive duties and hits a blaster, it clears the crossbar - and the 20 metre fence!
61 mins
That's the hour mark, Sammy Rowland looked set to score but didn't connect well. There is no respite for the visting ladies from Suffolk. Ten-nil down makes it a long journey home.
59 mins
!!! G O A L !!!
Steph McCaffrey makes a run at goal, does a couple of classic drop-the-shoulder dummies and slots home Number ten. Steph showing her quality.
58 mins
Needham's keeper bravely keeps out two almost certain goals, Bravo to her! Orient win a corner.
53 mins
!!! G O A L !!!
Now a Hat-trick for Poppy Binding. Needham are unable to resist. Orient have mastery in all areas of the pitch.
48 mins
Sammy Rowland is on the field for Wiki Kiszkis. Perhaps Needham are thinking it's good the see the back of Wiktoria?
48 mins
!!! G O A L !!!
Wiki Kiszkis bags her hat-trick. We haven't seen such a strong peformance from her to date but it looks like she's now fit and able to contribute a great deal. She's being subbed off as we write this.
46 mins
And we're off for the 2nd half, immediately go on the attack and win a corner.
During HT
Less than 50 people are in the stands, there are almost as many media people as there are spectators. We imagine that will change over time as people get the idea that some classy football is on show. We think we're not getting ahead of ourselves if we pencil in the next round of the FA cup - the first round "proper" where much stronger clubs join the fun and the prize money will baloon into something significant. It's likely that the higher teams will be looking to avoid Leyton Orient in the cup draw. Who could blame them?
45+4 mins
H A L F - T I M E
So many great performances so far, Larry Peterson picks out Poppy Binding as the pick of the bunch but everyone is soooo good! At 7:0 up, the result is not in doubt, Jason now has the freedom to make changes for reasons other than for chasing the game.
45+2 mins
!!! G O A L !!!
Gemma Baker plays a 1-2 with Steph McCaffrey and gets herself onto the scoresheet. Classy inter-play from Steph and Gemma.
45 mins
!!! G O A L !!!
Wiki Fronc blasts a 25 yarder to make it 6:0. Where does all this power come from? Wiki looks so petite and yet she can hit a ball with some ferocity.
42 mins
Orient still on the front foot, we have a corner as half time approaches.
38 mins
5:0 Up in the first half, against a team from a higher league, and we have the league's top goalscorer (Sammy Rowland) sitting on the bench. These are great times to be an Orient fan!
37 mins
Our two Wiktorias are running amok, Kiszkis almost beats the keeper, Fronc causing havoc in the Needham defence. One wonders if they are communicating in Polish to flummox the Needham defenders.
36 mins
!!! G O A L !!!
Poppy Binding does a "Messi", twisting and turning in the box , dummying and makes space for the shot - and get's her second of the game. Fabulous talent!
33 mins
Gemma Baker takes up a good position and gets a chance but just can't make a good connection with the ball.
30 mins
The half-hour mark passes, Needham must be asking what they can do to rescue this game, attack more and risk being punished at the back - or stablilise the defense but reduce the chances of scoring. Being 4-0 down after 30 minutes must be difficult to deal with.
26 mins
!!! G O A L !!!
Ellie Thomas Leek fires in from another free kick from distance, a classic Ellie strike!
24 mins
Needham player is down... she gets up after a minute or two, all OK. O's get an attacking free kick but Needham clear the danger.
20 mins
!!! G O A L !!!
Commentator's curse!!! Or was is reverse psychology from Larry? Poppy Binding hits one in the net direct from the right-side corner flag.
19 mins
Larry reckons this will not be a repeat of the multi-goal fest we've seen recently. Needham look a strong team.
18 mins
Esme Lancaster leaves her midfield control duties behind for a few seconds and fires in a rasping drive but the keeper keeps it out.
18 mins
Needham keeper makes a good save from an on-target Orient header. We couldn't see who headed it, so many were there.
16 mins
Orient showing respect to Needham, Grace Gillard is not coming forward on her renown attacking forays. Clearly a cleamn sheet is high on the priority list.
14 mins
Steph McCaffrey moves in from wide and gets a shot away but the angle is too acute so the keeper is able to keep it out.
13 mins
!!! G O A L !!!
Wiktoria Kiszkis gets her second of the game. She has 'only' another 77 minutes to get her hat-trick.
12 mins
Steph McCaffrey gets into a shooting position but hits it just wide.
09 mins
Needham showing they are no wallflowers, they come storming on the attack and hit the underside of our crossbar. Nearly an equaliser.
04 mins
!!! G O A L !!!
Wiktoria Kiszkis gets the scoreboard turning.
03 mins
Orient pressing, we win a corner.
01 mins
We're off and playing...
0 mins
All lined up and ready to go.... There's a lot of cameras here, it seems there's significant media interest.
Almost there!
Larry reports we have another prospective signing at the match, no signature yet but is highly recommended. Fingers crossed! The teams are not out yet, a short delay it seems. Both our Polish youth internationals are in today's starting line-up, Wiki Fronc and Wiktoria Kiszkis. Good to see Emily Dilliway on the bench for her first game with the seniors. Orient are in their normal Red kit, Needham in their regular yellow strip.
Only 5 mins to go now!
We normally get a team sheet at about kick-off time, rather than edit the list of players (below), we'll try to post the line-up and subs right here. We're particularly looking to see if Lucy Porter recovered from a nasty knock last weekend and if recently returned from injury Wiki Fronc is in the starting line-up, she's a bit special! Recent signing Lois Heuchan also returned last weekend and, like so many in the side, she's a top performer and a regulalr goal-scorer - even from full-back.
15 mins to kick off
Our reporter Larry Peterson is at the ground and is ready to send us messages as the game progresses. Last Saturday he sent the message "GOAL" fourteen times plus all the other bits and pieces he tells us about. It was very difficult to keep this page updated on time with so much going on - still, we wouldn't want it any other way.
A quick shout-out for "A Fan" who contacted us anonymously via our website, he/she pointed out that the Cheshunt ground has 380 covered seats, a fact we omitted in our "about us" page. If you want to watch games at Cheshunt, please don't miss out if you need a seat, there's plenty.
30 mins to kick off
Our thanks to Warren Lewis-Claxton at Needham Market WFC for engaging with us to help make a match preview with info from the opposition. Our pen-person Gizmo wrote an informative piece in his preview which you can see at lofcwomen.com . Those folks know we have a strong (understatement) team this season and are expecting a tough game. We think "tough" is an apt description. We shall see in about half-hour.
45 mins to kick off
Welcome to the Cheshunt stadium where the O's ladies will battle with Needham Market WFC, a higher ranked team, in the 3rd and final qualifying round of the FA Cup. The winners will go on to the first round 'proper' where there's serious prize money on offer and where the big clubs start to get involved. The weather is about perfect for footy, 16 deg C and no sign of rain. We'll be back with more soon....
Pre-match...
From Cheshunt's stadium near Theobald's Grove Overground station where Orient's women will take on Needham Market FC, a Tier six team, in the third (and final ) qualifying round of the National Women's FA Cup competition. Orient play at Tier seven, that's one level down the pecking order. The folks at Needham Market WFC know we have recruited strongly and have seen our early results. They are well aware that things will not be easy despite playing against a Tier seven side.
Our roving correspondent Larry Peterson will be at the ground, we'll be publishing his comments before, during and after the game (see above)
In the latest score banner (bottom of the screen) we've added a time stamp to show when this page was last updated. This will update each time we send a new message.
