Leyton Orient vs Colchester Utd

Match Preview
Sun November 8th, 2026

This Sunday Orient welcome Colchester United who have made the long trip across Essex to Cheshunt. This version of the womens’ team started in 2023 and was promoted last year, like us, to Tier 6. They have had an odd season so far, playing only four league games and losing them all, but making a decent fist of the FA Cup and getting through a couple of rounds. They have also played three other cup games and lost them all.

Their regular goalkeeper is Izzy Eagland although there is an ex-O on the bench in Lottie Behan. In front of them are Lucy Yewman and Layla Russell. Billie-Jo Williams is a fixture in midfield alongside Brooke Wright. They are joined usually by Bethany Sinnott-Mills. Their top scorer is Lindsey Morgan with four. Keisha Amoah and Lily Tilyard support her.

Orient will be picking from our normal crew. Fliss Tatum looks set for another start in goal with Gracie Hickman and Kaylee Shurety in front of her. I shouldn’t forget Erin Cheyne as well. Newcomers Katie O’Donnell, Mollie Rose Sherrin and Amy Day have fitted straight in and will want to build on their early matches. Lily Aungier, Beth Brogan and captain Stef Paci have been very reliable. Amy Yeldham scored a nice goal against Hertford and Dani Hindley a great long-range effort and they will both be hoping to add to their tally. That’s without mentioning the young duo of Libby Keeler and Aleena Anwar who have both shown great promise.

It would be remiss if we failed to say a word or two about a pair of largely un-sung heros in the form of Samantha Read, our strongest throw-in exponent, and Aimee Brosnan. These two do a lot of the hard work to rob the opponents of possession and set up our own attacks. That kind of work is vital in any team and it's often where bumps are bruises are given and taken on a regular basis. Bravo ladies, we appreciate all that you do.

Orient come into this match top of the division after another chaotic win over Hertford Town. Normal breathing and heart rate may resume now. Colchester haven’t scored in their last two matches which might encourage our shell-shocked defenders. Although Orient tradition dictates being generous … Their record does suggest that if you give them opportunities, they will put them away. On the other hand, they haven’t managed a clean sheet this season. This fixture promises goals and there is a healthy Essex rivalry between the two clubs, although they have a better claim to being the Trinovantes.

Whilst Leyton Orient Women are expected to take to the pitch for a few games at Brisbane Rd, most home matches this season will be played at Cheshunt FC’s ground on Theobalds Lane in the Borough of Broxbourne. The post code is EN8 8RU. There’s plenty of free parking at the ground and it’s about 600 yards from Theobalds Grove Overground Station. At the Ground. Orient play their matches on Cheshunt’s main stadium pitch, with kick-off normally scheduled for 2pm. There is an abundance of covered seating along with terracing and areas for those who wish to stand. As there is no charge for admission, use any of the open entrances to get to the stands. Toilets are located just to the north of the West (main) Stand. Right behind the West Stand is a sports bar with several large screens showing that day’s Premier League and/or Cup matches. Unlike at Brisbane Rd, you are allowed to consume alcohol beverages whilst watching the match but please ask for your drink to be poured into a plastic glass. Food at the bar is limited to crisps, peanuts and chocolate bars. There are also toilets near the parking lot entrance to the bar. For more substantial sustenance, there is a ‘shipping container’ canteen located in the parking lot behind the North Stand. It serves grub such as burgers, pies and wraps as well as hot and cold non-alcoholic beverages. Please note that dogs are not allowed at Cheshunt’s ground, except for certified guide and service canines.

Sunday's fixtures round-up

This Sunday, 8th November, there will be five Division One South league games, as follows:

D1S AFC Sudbury Res : Chelmsford
D1S AFC Welwyn : Toby
D1S Hutton : Enfield Town
D1S L Orient : Colchester U
D1S Wormley : Southend

⚽  Second placed AFC Sudbury Reserves take on title favourites Chelmsford City in a match which will probably define Sudbury's season. They are second but have lost three and drawn one league games from eight played. Another defeat will almost certainly mean they will not be troubling the leading pack as the season progresses.

⚽  Point-less Hutton have the tough job of facing Enfield Town who have played only three league games so far - a sign they are progressing well in the various cup competitions. It's hard to see Hutton being able to break their duck this week.

⚽  Wormley continue to forge their way up the table and now have Southend firmly in their sights. These two meet on Sunday, we expect Wormley to move a few spots , maybe up to 3rd with a win.
