Hertford vs Leyton Orient

Match Preview
November 1st 18, 2026

A quick return match in the league against Hertford Town. The previous match was a wild 4-3 win for Orient which saw them come back from 3-0 down at half-time and included a red card at the end for a Hertford player. Feedback from the game was that the Hertford coaching staff were very unhappy with the result so expect them to be very motivated for this game.

Since playing us, Hertford have lost 4-3 to Wormley in the league, another game guaranteed not to improve the mood of the coaches and sit third in the table, albeit having played two games more than Orient. The favourites for the title now look to be either Chelmsford City or Enfield Town who have played only four and three matches respectively but have amassed nine and seven points. The division leaders, AFC Sudbury Reserves, have thirteen points from eight games.

Hertford have two very dangerous players in Charlie Mills and Olivia Thornton, if they can get them on the pitch. Elissa Morris is also a capable goal scorer. There are lots of regular performers: Lily Barber, Ella Draper, Sienna Goodfellow, Lily Martin and Ava Plumb have played in twelve games so far with three other girls on eleven. My apologies for not being able to identify their positions.

Orient have continued recruiting and last week introduced four new players: Aimee Brosnan, Amy Day, Megan McAniskey and Molly Rose Sherrin. It will be interesting to see what they can contribute this week. Fliss Tatum will continue in goal although on current form she probably feels like the javelin thrower who won the toss and elected to receive. In front of her defenders Gracie Hickman, Kaylee Shurety and their teammates will have to do better. Stef Paci and Lily Aungier will need to provide midfield protection as well as provide some impetus going forward. The team created chances against Ampthill but nothing went in. Goals have been shared round, and Jody Buckley has a wide choice of strikers: Amy Yeldham, Beth Brogan, Libby Keeler, Aleena Anwar and Tiff Balfour.

Lily Barber was entitled to think it was game over when she scored No 3.

Both teams come into this match in poor form. Hertford have lost their last three, conceding ten goals. Orient have conceded seventeen in their last five, winning one. Bar some inspired coaching change from either side this looks to be a game full of goals (just watch it be 0-0 now). Orient are still a work in progress and the team has had some good performances, and some not so good ones, up to now. If things click, they are a match for anyone in the division. This could be a very entertaining match for the neutral and a heart-stopping one for the coaches!

Away venue

Hertingfordbury Park, Horns Rd, Hertford SG13 8EZ Coming on the A10, head for Hertford via the A414. At second roundabout turn left onto Gascoyne Way and then after the next roundabout, left onto West Street which become Horns Road. The ground is on the right.

Reviews are very favourable saying it has a good clubhouse with bar and that there is usually some food available either through a kiosk or a van. If you’re coming by public transport, Hertford North looks the better station, although Hertford East is also possible. About twenty minutes’ walk from either station.
If you have time, have a wander around 15th century Grade 1 listed Hertford Castle built on the site of a Norman castle.

Sunday's fixtures round-up

This Sunday, 1st November, there will be four Division One South league games (D1S) and two "League Plate" cup matches - as follows:

D1S Hutton : Chelmsford
D1S Colchester : Wormley
D1S Hertford : Orient
D1S Toby : Southend
LP AFC Welwyn : Newmarket
LP Enfield : AFC Sudbury Res

⚽  Chelmsford have dropped fewer points than everyone else so they are the dark horses moving up on the blind-side. We can't expect bottom club Hutton to slow their progress.

⚽  Toby are a tough side but we expect Southend Utd to add three poits to their gathering assault on top spot.

⚽  Enfield Town also have their eye set on promotion and are going along very nicely. AFC Sudbury have played a lot more games and currently sit top, we suspect that will no longer be the case on Sunday evening. The "Plate" cup game between these two is something of a crunch match. For those playing league games, there's a great opportunity for Orient to sit atop the list on Sunday evening although Hertford and Southend will have that idea too.
