Gizmo's preview:
Ampthill Town vs Leyton Orient

Venue
Oct 25, 2026

A trip across to Bedfordshire for a cup match in the League Plate. Our opponents, Ampthill Town (the Amps) started life back in 1881 although the women’s team only started in 2023 and plays in Division One (North) of the Eastern Region Women’s Football League, currently sitting in sixth place courtesy of one win and three draws. For context, Leyton Orient play in the southern version of the same league so the standard should be similar.

Their bright spark is Matilda O’Keefe with ten goals in ten games. Opposition star strikers have been having a profitable time against us in recent weeks, particularly speedy ones! So fore-warned is fore-armed.
Kirstie Walker is the next highest with four goals. Destiny Pap and Lauren Appleby make up part of the midfield. Charlie Payne (that’s how it is spelt on the FA website), Molly Blair and Jodie Molloy are regular starters, although I don’t know where they play.

Orient are going well in the league but cannot win a cup game for love nor money. They lost a thrilling Capital Cup match on penalties last Sunday so will be looking to try and make amends in this game. They will be without Elissa Stonebrook who appeared to pick up a nasty injury in the game against Sporting Duet, and everyone wishes her a speedy and straightforward recovery. Shannon Wason also took a heavy knock so is also a doubt, fingers crossed she can make the game.

This raises a problem for a defence which has shipped fifteen goals in the last four matches. Fliss Tatum will be looking for more insulation from the defence in front of her, led by Gracie Hickman who should be assisted by Kaylee Shurety. Stef Paci and Lily Aungier will provide grounding in midfield. Libby Keeler and Aleena Anwar have proven to be live wires up front. We hope Aleena is eligible for this one.

Becki Ingram (L) and Tasmin Gentle feature for Ampthill Town.

For a cup game which is away from home, Orient need to cause a shock. The issue is clear: the team must find a way of stemming the flow of goals. If they can do it, there is a good chance of a win as there are plenty of the girls good at sniffing out chances and making connections. We were all impressed by Molly Sherrin's debut appearance last week, clearly an excellent recruit, let's hope she can help make the difference.

Best Route to the Ground: JCT 13 of M1 – Follow A507 Towards Ampthill, take turn Right onto Woburn Street, Left into Central Car Park, Ampthill Park. JCT of A1 for Shefford – Follow A507 towards Ampthill, go straight at One-O-One roundabout and stay on A507, turn right into Woburn Street Rumour has it that there is a café and bar on-site, but I can’t find information confirming this. Information about the Amps ohm ground is sparse.

Live Text on Sunday....
Ampthill Town vs Leyton Orient

Sunday's fixtures round-up

With six "women's regional plate" cup games (LP), one League Cup match (LC) and an FA Cup tie (FA), this Sunday will be busy.
Games involving teams from our league are shown with a *.
There will be no Eastern Region League games - We remain in 2nd spot.

LP AFC Welwyn* : Newmarket
LP Ampthill : Orient*
LP Hutton* : Southend*
LP Wormley* : Luton Dev
LP Needham Mkt : Colchester*
LP Chelmsford* : St. Albans
LC AFC Sudbury* : Hertford
LC Toby* : Watford Dev
FA Fulham : Enfield Tn*

⚽  Three David versus Goliath games arise from this mix of cup ties. Chelmsford face Tier 5 opposition in St Albans, Toby face mega-club Watford Development and Enfield Town, as good as they clearly are, will have a battle with Tier 4 side Fulham.

⚽  Although now playing at Tier 6 in the northern division of our league, we saw last season's rapidly improvement in Luton Town development side in that they ran Orient's super team close in the Greater London Premiership as the season finished. Luton are runaway league leaders so clearly their trajectory is very much on the rise. Wormley are tough outfit but they have a mountain to climb in this game.

Next up...

Next Sunday, 1st November, we take on Hertford Town (A) who, speaking plainly, were seriously piqued at losing to us 4:3 recently at Cheshunt, particularly after leading 3:0 at half time. Some harsh words were exchanged and a few handbags swung, such are the passions within women's regional football these days. It should make for an 'interesting' afternoon.
