Gizmo's preview:
Leyton Orient Women vs Sporting Duet

Cheshunt stadium
Oct 18, 2026

A return to cup action with a blast from the recent past in a match up against Sporting Duet. Orient are the defending champions in the Intermediate Capital Cup, although that was with a completely different team.

Oh! We like scoring goals!!!

Sporting and Orient were in the same division of the Greater London Women's Football League last season when the previous incarnation of Orient were running riot and Sporting finished mid-table. The women are part of Sporting Duet Academy based in West London, playing out of Chiswick. The club has had a partnership with RC Lens since 2017, although there is no obviously French influence in the women’s team.

Sporting’s division is smaller than last year and likely to reduce even further as London Galaxy haven’t played a match yet. It also looks weaker because, as well as the promoted teams leaving, Luton Town Development and Comets have decamped, which meant a reprieve for Islington Borough and AFC Leyton. Sporting are currently in third place but have only played four matches. Last season’s top scorer, Olivia Woodward, is still on the books but has only played one match. New players Shenice Dyer and Shani McKenzie are currently top scorers with three apiece but there are four others with two, including Woodward. Isabelle Harvey and Eilidh Mackinnan-Short look to be regular starters. Outside of them, there appears to be a lot of rotation in the squad.

Orient come into this match on a high, after an extraordinary come from behind 4-3 win over Hertford Town, having been 3-0 down at half-time. Text match commentary on the day said at half-time, “Don’t see how Jody can turn this around.” Which just goes to show, don’t under-estimate him and, especially, don’t under-estimate these players. It will be interesting to see if Freya Faulkner gets a start in the cup in place of Fliss Tatum. The defence, led by Gracie Hickman will be looking to put in an improved performance from recent games, aided by Kaylee Shurety, Elissa Stonebrook and Erin Cheyne.. Captain Stef Paci and Lily Aungier will try and control the midfield. One question is whether the shooting sisters, Libby Keeler and Aleena Anwar will get on from the start. We mustn’t forget Shannon Wason who set-up two of the goals and Beth Brogan who provided the final bullet. This is a competition that Orient have a good chance to do well in. On current form this first round match is one Orient should win but it never does to get complacent. If given a chance, Sporting can score goals. As we saw last Sunday, anything can happen!

Leyton Orient vs Sporting Duet

Sunday's fixtures round-up

The Capital Cup (CC) starts it's programme to find this year's winners at the intermediate level, that's a London and home counties knock-out competition for teams playing at Tiers six and seven.

Leyton Orient are the current cup holders having beaten Hammersmith 4:0 in the final last April. Of course, that team won everything! There are seven games involving teams from our league - they are shown with a *.

There will also be two league games in Division One - South (D1S) of the Eastern Region Women's football league.

CC Enfield* : Chessington
CC Orient* : Sport Duet
CC Brighlingsea : Chelmsford*
CC Great Danes : Colchester*
CC Hashtag Res* : Southend*
CC Hutton* : Tigers
CC Toby* : Leigh
D1S AFC Welwyn : AFC Sudbury
D1S Wormley : Hertford

⚽  We see that Hashtag Development are booked to play Southend in the Capital Cup but as Hashtag withdrew there B team from the league some weeks ago, we don't know if they are playing elsewhere. That game may end up as an away-win walk-over.

⚽  In the league, the two "AFC" teams, Welwyn and Sudbury Reserves will play each other. If Sudbury take the three points they will move above us on GD although we will have two games in hand. AS we know to our cost, Welwyn are in hot form right now.

⚽  Wormley could do us a favour by beating Hertford thus promoting us to the top position on GD. The league table says this is unlikely but Wormley are a tough side when they are in the right frame of mind.
