Gizmo's preview: Leyton Orient Women vs Hertford Town
Cheshunt stadium
Oct 11, 2026
This Sunday we welcome league leaders Hertford Town to Cheshunt for a challenging match. Not a club which likes to advertise itself as you must follow on Instagram, Facebook or X to find out what’s happening. (Apologies, but I’m old and like a website with basic information.) Hertford FC go back to 1901 but the women’s team is a later addition and has been playing in this division since 2023-24 occupying a firmly mid-table place until this season.

They seem to have brought in some new recruits this season, which is reflected in their results. They have one of the more potent attacks in the division spearheaded by Olivia Thornton, Charlie Mills and Elissa Morris. Ella Draper is the keeper. In front of her Keira Groves is in central defence and captains the team (I think) and last week was joined by Lily Martin, Chloe Gormley and Emily Warren (the Blues sisters?). Sienna Goodfellow is a hard-working central midfielder who has been in good form.

Orient come to this match after a disappointing 3-0 loss to AFC Welwyn, who played the second half of the match with ten women. Everyone will be looking to put in a better performance this time. This is a challenge for Jody Buckley and his team, which I’m sure they will relish. Captain Stef Paci will be looking to rally the girls for this match. Aimee Brosnan made her debut last week and will be looking to get more minutes. Fliss Tatum should continue in goal, flanked by ever presents Erin Cheyne and Kaylee Shurety. They will be supported by Gracie Hickman and Elissa Stonebrook. Up front Amy Yeldham is our leading scorer with three but loads of the girls are on two, like Beth Brogan and Sam Read and will be looking to keep up with her. Tiff Balfour may have the chance to make an appearance as well.

The game against Welwyn was a reminder that things don’t always go to plan. Fliss is a good goalkeeper but hit a shot with the right arc from the right distance and, without magic beans, she’s not got the height. But this cuts both ways. It’s a competitive division and if Orient are on it and Hertford are not, then anything is possible. I expect a close, competitive game.
The game is scheduled to kick-off at 2:00pm. We encourage you go and take a look at the O's ladies set up, you'll have a fun afternoon. Click HERE for information about how to get there, parking, entry (it's free), covered seating, refreshments etc.

Play for Orient women
The club has again made efforts at player recruitment. Without insider knowledge, we assume that Orient women's head coach Jody Buckley is concerned that the squad's depth needs some bolstering to help enable him, Marc and Stu to achieve the club's aims for this season. Orient never stop looking for ways to improve the squad.
To their credit, the club have tried to point out why Leyton Orient is the best option for skilled players (which it is... Ed) and have added more information for would-be recruits. We've reproduced it here:
Leyton Orient FC Women’s first-team are looking for players to join their journey, as they work to build something special. The O's want positive, ambitious, committed and hardworking players, who are ready to challenge themselves, develop and compete at a higher level.
If you want to improve, work hard and be part of a team that wants to succeed, we’d love to hear from you. We can provide players with the following:
- UEFA B coaching standards
- High-performance coaching and player development plans
- Support and facilities needed to help you progress
- A travel, training and playing kit package
Wearing the Leyton Orient badge comes with pride, responsibility and the opportunity to represent a club with a great history and an exciting future.
To register your interest in joining the O's, please email: j.buckley@leytonorient.com

Sunday's fixtures round-up
There will be five league games in Division One - South (D1S) of the Eastern Region Women's football league on Sunday.
| D1S | Sudbury Res | : | Southend |
| D1S | Enfield | : | Chelmsford |
| D1S | Hutton | : | AFC Welwyn |
| D1S | Orient | : | Hertford |
| D1S | Toby | : | Wormley |
⚽ Enfield are unbeaten in the league, Chelmsford are the only team with 100% record. If Chelmsford win this, their way to the title looks open - if they can keep it up.
⚽ Hutton are struggling, so were AFC Welwyn until they hit us for three last Sunday. If they continue in that form, the points are theirs for the taking.
⚽ Toby and Wormley are battling in mid table, both have been getting stronger, this looks like a 50-50 battle.
⚽ Former Orient defender Chloe Gormley has been an ever-present for Hertford this season, She was a polished performer for us but lost out when the previous owners brought in players from FAWNL, as did all the other players at that time. Nice to see you again Chloe!
