AFC Welwyn vs Leyton Orient

Welwyn Garden City
Oct 4, 2026

Round two of the Trinovantes versus the Romans this Sunday, as our girls make the short trip across to Welwyn Garden City.

Plan B this week perhaps?

Since we played them just over a month ago, they have not won a match and, in the last two weeks, have been shipping goals at an alarming rate, losing 6-0 to Chelmsford City and 7-1 to AFC Sudbury Reserves. Fighting alone is not doing it for the Romans, and they should ideally call up the auxiliaries, although that’s not available. Failing that, retreating into an orbus looks called for – or a low block in football terms.

Will Tiffany be fit to start at Welwyn?

Macey Barclay is the keeper with the unenviable task of protecting Welwyn’s goal.
Orient come into this match having been well beaten by Harpenden in the league cup, which shows just how wide the gap may be between the Premier Division and Division 1 South. This is a chance to re-group and continue what has been an encouraging league campaign. Orient officially now have three wise women in Stef Paci, Gracie Hickman and Amy Yeldham who will put everyone into the right frame of mind. Alongside Amy, Tiff Balfour, Beth Brogan and Libby Keeler will be riding the war chariots, Erin Cheyne and Lily Aungier will do the driving while Elissa Stonebrook and Kaylee Shurety will joining Gracie in keeping things tight at the back.

Aleena may also be up for a starting berth

There is the possibility of a debut as defender Aimee Brosnan has joined the ranks. The only info we have about Aimee is that she is a 21 year old defender with links to London City Lionesses U21, and Ebbsfleet United where they record five starts and one appearance from the bench in the London & South East Regional Women’s League.

Given the previous result, and Welwyn’s poor recent form, this is an ideal match for Orient to get back to winning ways.

Previous result:

Leyton Orient 5 AFC Welwyn 1 (30 August 2026 – League Cup)

AFC Welwyn normally play at the Pexhurst Stadium, Herns Way, Welwyn Garden City AL7 1TA. However, one of their social media sites talks about playing Orient in Hatfield. Sorry, we're confused too.

Live Text on Sunday....
AFC vs Leyton Orient

Sunday's fixtures round-up

There will be seven games involving clubs in our (Eastern) region on Sunday. Four are league games in Division One - South (D1S), the other three are Women's FA Cup ties. (FAC):

Division One - South

D1S AFC Welwyn : L Orient
D1S Southend : Hutton
D1S Wormley : AFC Sudbury
D1S Toby : Hertford

⚽  Hutton remain largely an unknown threat. They've played only two league games and lost them both. A 5:0 defeat to AFC Sudbury and a walk-over against Wormley Rovers. Now they face a tough Southend Utd side. Our money would be on a Shrimpers win in this one.

⚽  Wormley Rovers have picked up two draws with three defeats so far, one of those draws was against us when a swathe of our players were unavailable. Those points dropped may come back to bite us hard! Rovers will do well to get something from a trip to highly regarded AFC Sudbury reserves.

⚽  Toby are going along much as they did last season, this Sunday sees them take on top club (currently) Hertford Town who have four wins from five - and probably too much for the beer brewers.

Women's FA Cup
Eastern Region Division 1 (South) teams (that's our division) are shown with a *.

FAC Chelmsford* : Harpenden
FAC Enfield* : Billericay
FAC MK Dons : Colchester*

⚽  An intriguing match sees title favourites Chelmsford City up against our conquerers from last week - Harpenden Town. If City fail to keep Town striker Sophie Amanor under control, she alone will usher them out of the prestigious FA Cup competition. If they can keep her away from scoring chances, we can see a possible giant killing game!

⚽  Enfield lost a very close tier 6 versus tier 5 encounter last Sunday to Royston and now, in the FA Cup, they face higher league opposiiton in the shape of Billericay Town who, over recent seasons, seem to be on a nose-dive south. We reckon Enfield may have enough about them to score a win and move into the next round.

⚽  Colchester remain pointless from two league games, we know zero about MK Dons but they must fancy their chances in this one.
