Gizmo's preview
Wormley Rovers vs Leyton Orient

Hertford - Sept 13, 2026

Our girls take on bottom club Wormley Rovers this Sunday in a Division 1 (South) game in the Eastern Region Womens’ football league. The Hertford based club have played four and lost three of them having scored six goals but conceded twelve. They also drew fellow Division One (S) side Enfield Town in the league cup which they also lost, this time 3:0. Wormley played this division last season and finished a handy mid-table position at 5th out of ten clubs, their record showed P:18, W:7, D:4, L:7. Holly Fox top scored by some distance with seventeen league goals, Summer Small followed up with ten, Ciara Purdur helped out with a useful six scores. Those three have played this season but have yet to hit the net except for two from Purdue in last nights evening match at Enfield where Rovers secured their first point.

If you fancy trip to historic Hertford, the match will be played Hertingfordbury Park, West Street, Hertford, SG13 8EZ, kick off will be at the usual 2:00pm The ground has an ample fifty car parking spaces.
Orient, until last Sunday, had played three games so far, two in the league, one in the league cup and had three victories – all against Division 1 (S) sides. Last Sunday’s reversal against Milton Keynes demonstrated that MK Irish are of a higher standard than clubs in our league so no shame there. All in all, Os have every reason to be confident of a win this coming Sunday.

We understand Libby Keeler and Brittany Varon are still away, we also missed Sara Merican and hot-shot Amy Yeldham last Sunday, that’s a lot of talent to lose and that will have had an effect. However, newbie youngsters Aleena Anwar and Havin Aygun made their Orient debuts from the bench and looked the part from the moment they stepped onto the pitch. Of course, we’re not the only team missing some top players during the summer holiday season but we are looking forward to when we’ll have our best team and a strong bench available. Things are less clear about Mae Lawfull who is registered with us but has not yet been seen.

Fixtures round-up

We try to have a look around at the teams in our league and any other related news of interest. Here are Sunday's fixtures concerning teams in our division.

Eastern Region WFL Division 1 (South)

D1S AFC Welwyn : Chelmsford
D1S Southend Utd : Enfield
D1S Toby : AFC Sudbury
D1S Wormley Rov : L Orient
D1S Colchester : Hertford

Chelmsford City travel to AFC Welwyn as they try to make it three wins from three. Welwyn were unbeaten in the league until last night's 1:0 defeat at Hertford Town, they also lost heavily to us in the cup. We'd like to see Welwyn take the points on Sunday but we're not going to get our wish.

Southend are going along nicely with two wins in three, Enfield played their first league game last night in a 2:2 draw with Wormley Rovers but they are showing strong in the League Cup. Our tip is for Enfield to spoil the Shrimpers' day.

Toby haven't won a game yet but it's early doors. However, visiting AFC Sudbury reserves are currently top so it's likely that Toby will still be without points come Sunday evening.

Finally, Col Utd, having lost their opening two league matches are hoping to get off the mark against visiting Hertford Town who have two wins and a loss. This one looks like a draw.
