Gizmo's match preview
AFC Sudbury reserves
On Sunday we welcome Sudbury reserves, who are making the relatively long trip from south Suffolk to Cheshunt. We asked them to bring a Gainsborough, but they said they preferred painting pictures on the pitch. They are newly promoted from the Suffolk Women’s and Girls League where they were the runaway winners last season, going undefeated. AFC Sudbury is a 1999 amalgamation of two teams; Sudbury Town and Sudbury Wanderers. The women’s team has been around since at least 2010, and the firsts play in the division above us. The reserves are a group of under 17 to under 19 girls and young women and the aim is to feed them into the first team.
The two big hitters for them last year were Olivia Clennell and Joy Hughes with fourteen and thirteen goals respectively. Next best was Emily Newcomb, with five in eight games. These figures should be treated with caution, as the team scored 71 goals and I can’t get anywhere near that on the website! In defence, they conceded a mere eleven. I’m not entirely sure who they will pick from as they have eight players dual registered with the first team and none of those played last Sunday.
Orient come into this match after an encouraging 4-0 victory against Toby Ladies. Unfortunately, the holiday season is in full swing so not everyone is available but that will provide opportunities for others. Kaylee Shurety had a good game against Toby with a goal and an assist. Amy Yeldham also bagged her first for the club. Freya Faulkner will again be in goal with Gracie Hickman and Elissa Stonebrook in front of her. There seems to be a requirement that Leyton Orient have grace. Steph Paci will be urging the team on to greater efforts from midfield with Lily Aungier as a partner. I’m not sure if Tiff Balfour is fit to start.
AFC Sudbury Reserves started the season with a thumping 5-0 win over Hutton Ladies, who were relegated from the Premier Division which included a brace from Amelia Karkoska. This shows that they are intent on keeping up their momentum from last year. This is going to be a tough test, as Sudbury reserves have started as they finished last season, but it’s what the girls signed up for.
As it’s the first home game of the season, which is the first of four consecutive home matches.
Whilst Leyton Orient Women are expected to take to the pitch for a few games at Brisbane Rd, most home matches this season will be played at Cheshunt FC’s ground on Theobalds Lane in the Borough of Broxbourne. The post code is EN8 8RU. There’s plenty of free parking at the ground and it’s about 600 yards from Theobalds Grove Overground Station.
At the Ground
Orient play their matches on Cheshunt’s main stadium pitch, with kick-off normally scheduled for 2pm. There is an abundance of covered seating along with terracing and areas for those who wish to stand. As there is no charge for admission, use any of the open entrances to get to the stands. Toilets are located just to the north of the West (main) Stand.
Right behind the West Stand is a sports bar with several large screens showing that day’s Premier League and/or Cup matches. Unlike at Brisbane Rd, you are allowed to consume alcohol beverages whilst watching the match but please ask for your drink to be poured into a plastic glass. Food at the bar is limited to crisps, peanuts and chocolate bars. There are also toilets near the parking lot entrance to the bar.
For more substantial sustenance, there is a ‘shipping container’ canteen located in the parking lot behind the North Stand. It serves grub such as burgers, pies and wraps as well as hot and cold non-alcoholic beverages.
Please note that dogs are not allowed at Cheshunt’s ground, except for certified guide and service canines.

Danielle Hindley joins the Os
The club has declared the signing of Danielle Hindley for the season. Danielle's inclusion now makes the Orient squad eighteen strong, mostly new signings plus a few from the youth teams who are looking to step up to first team duty. The club made the announcement about Danielle in their X channel as follows:-
The 27-year-old midfielder brings a wealth of experience in the women’s game and adds further quality to the squad as we continue to build for the season ahead.
Manager Jody Buckley said:
“Dan has huge levels of experience in the women’s game and will be a massive asset to the squad both on and off the pitch. She’s an amazingly talented player who never gives less than 100%, and someone I know and trust from our time together at Maldon & Tiptree.”Danielle added....
"I'm delighted to sign for the Os, it's a club with an incredible history. I remember coming to Brisbane Road as a kid. To now have the opportunity to wear the shirt is a real privilege. I can't wait to get started!"Welcome to the O’s, Danielle
LIVE-TEXT show this Sunday
LOFCwomen.com will be proving live text coverage of Sunday's first home league game against AFC Sudbury Res. The regular LOFCwomen.com gang will be in attendance so they'll be making some noise.
