Sammy Rowland wins the Mitre "golden ball" again!

We understand this is a first! O's prolific striker - Sammy Rowland, despite missing much of the season with a knee injury, has won the Golden Ball competition. Sponsored by ball distributor 'Mitre' this presitigious award goes to the woman who scored the most goals during the Adobe Womens' FA Cup competition.

Sammy has become the first player in the history of the FA Cup, men’s or women’s, to win the Mitre Golden Ball Award twice. After scoring an incredible 15 goals during this season’s competition, Sammy finished as the tournament’s top scorer, beating some huge names along the way, including WSL Golden Boot winner Bunny Shaw.

To mark the achievement, she had the honour of walking out at a packed Wembley stadium to receive the Mitre golden ball - just before last week's Adobe Women’s FA Cup Final

15 goals. Two Golden Balls. One history-maker. We're all very proud of Sammy - but don't tell Wiki!

Congratulations to Haley West

Our super-defender may in future be called Haley Birch, seen here honeymooning in the Phillipines. Our congratulations to them both, it's been quite a year for Haley, she appears to have won everything.

Let's hope we'll see her in the Orient colours next season.

Goodbye Greater London WFL

Having played at every level in the GLWFL, our championship means we'll be promoted out of its top tier - The Premier Division, and move up out of Tier 7 to, probably Tier 6. As yet we don't know which league that will be, there are at least two options. As soon as we know, we'll spill the beans!

The GLWFL's offial website is still showing an incomplete season where there remains four games to play. We are clear at the top so whatever they decide, it'll make no difference to us. So goodbye GLWFL - it's been interesting!

For what it's worth and in view of a great fight by the girls at Tooting Bec, we hope they are also promoted. They deserve it. We'd love to do battle with them again next season.

LOFCwomen.com updates

You may have noticed our home page looks a fair bit different now, there are many other changes behind the scenes. All of this results from analyses which show how people use the site and, perhaps most important, which bits don't get used as much. We've released this 'Beta' version which is faster, less complicated and gives clearer pointers to where all the information can be found, it also complies with the "accessible" guidelines (IOW: easier to see if your eyes are a bit dodgy!) . We're always happy to hear your feedback so let's hear it please - lofcwomen@yahoo.com
Expect more changes to be rolled out as we find time to test everything over the summer.

We're also planning a get-together soon for the four (so far) of us in an attempt to better coordinate what we do and to understand what changes we can expect from the club. There are a number of major things happening there we believe. More about this soon.

Georgia Griffin

Happy birthday "GG", thanks for a great season, you were unplayable at times. Hope to see you next season.
