Match Review
AFC Croydon Athletic 0:10 Leyton Orient.
Greater London WFL - Premier division – 14/12/2025

Anyone looking at a ten-nil scoreline would assume this was just another routine afternoon for Orient — the usual “turn up, score a dozen, go home” sort of business. But for the first 35 minutes, Croydon had absolutely no interest in sticking to that script. At 0–0, nobody was predicting a ten-goal margin. Furthermore, the young south Londoners were looking good value for their ability to keep the east enders at arm's length. Orient had more of the ball early on, but Croydon’s organisation and sheer stubbornness kept things tight. They didn’t create much going forward, but they did work like a team who’d decided they were not going to be steam rollered like all the other teams in the premier division. For a while, it worked, they slowed the Orient goal machine in a way nobody else in the league has managed. Then came the seven minute spell just before half time where they conceded four goals, just the sort of psychological punch that would make even a professional team lose their confidence. Croydon kept fighting until the hour mark but the effort they’d poured into that first half eventually caught up with them. From there, Orient did what Orient usually do: score six more goals in the final half hour, delivered with the same inevitability as receiving a tax bill. The stats will show a hat-trick for Wiktoria Kiszkis, doubles for Gemma Baker, Poppy Binding and Stephanie McCaffrey, plus one from Georgia Griffin. They will also show Orient sitting on 91 goals scored from eight Premier Division matches — at an average of 11.37 — and just one goal (an own goal) conceded. Yet somehow, we’re still only top on goal difference, Tooting Bec also refuse to read the script. We do have two games in hand, though, but the "have it all your own way" is not how this season is panning out. Bec and South London are still in with a good shout, at least for now. After the match, our man on the touchline, Larry Peterson, asked head coach Jason Stephens ..."I’ve never seen anything like it in my life, How do you do it?" . Jason’s answer about his team was simple: “They don’t concede goals — I don’t let them.” He also mentioned he’s aiming for a 200 goal season. At this point, you’d be brave to bet against him.

Georgia Griffin and Gemma Baker

Georgia Griffin and Gemma Baker after the final whistle.

This is the second consecutive game we've had to do without our, and the league's, top scorer: Sammy Rowland. Sammy is hoping her knee injury isn't as bad as she feared, it's early days yet. We also missed 'Lightning' Lois Heuchan who would've loved to be on a cold footy pitch in Croydon rather than amid the palm trees on a sun drenched sandy beach in Puerto Rico. Who could blame her? ☺️. Also, during the absence of midfield maestro Ellie Thomas Leek, Poppy Binding and Wiktoria Kiszkis are taking the chance to stake a claim for the shirt with a glut of goals in recent weeks.

Greater London WFL Premier round-up.

There was a full five game programme of Greater London Premier Division matches on Sunday, the scores were...

Lge AFC Croydon Ath 0 : 10 Leyton Orient
Lge Comets WFC 0 : 2 South London
Lge Islington 0 : 0 AFC Leyton
Lge London Accies 2 : 3 Sporting Duet
Lge Tooting Bec 1 : 0 Luton Town

Comets WFC's recent upturn in form was not enough to hold off the pre-season title favourites South London for whom Robyn Blanchard and Sabina Hollywood got the all important goals, one in each half, to maintain the pressure on second placed Tooting Bec. Islington Borough and AFC Leyton fought out a rare goalless draw at the Aloysius ground. Whilst avoiding defeat, neither were helped much by gaining just the one point. Both are 6 points from safety, one point closer than before. London Academicals and Sporting Duet had a close encounter which completely turned around in the final seven minutes. Goals in the 85th, 87th and 92nd minutes enabled Duet to get back to a won-6, Lost 6 record and maintain 4th spot in the table albeit having played 3-4 games more than most of the teams around them. Tooting Bec continue to rack up the wins, this time at the expense of a rejuvenated Luton Town Dev side. Bec were without top player and leading scorer, Bryony Bancroft, it was left to Jayny Saunders to hit the goal to secure three valuable points. Bec remain equal top with us except for GD and having played two games more but they are showing no signs of falling away. All Orient's results, league and cups, can be seen HERE . An additional fixture has been added on 4/1/2026, a home league game against Islington Borough. The official league table (and much more) can be seen via our Info and Menu page.

Up next

Next Sunday sees the Orient ladies play a home league match at Cheshunt stadium for only the third time this season. Of the eight league games played so far, five have been away from home and one was played at The BetWright stadium at Brisbane Road. Sunday's opponents travel just across the borough from Walthamstow which is the home ground for London Academicals. These teams have yet to meet this season.
